Coaching for Tutoring and Advising

This Development Group is focused on the use of coaching mindsets, models, approaches and tools in personal tutoring and advising with students in HE. The group is open to all who want to learn about, share or develop their use of coaching practices in tutoring or advising activities, leading tutoring/advising, or developing CPD opportunities for coaching in tutoring/advising. Members may be working in a variety of roles, including academic and professional services roles. No prior experience of coaching, tutoring/advising, leading or developing is required.

Objectives for 2026-27 


1. Finalise and publish our position statement on the value of coaching in tutoring and advising. 

2. Co-create some coaching resources to help develop a repository to support the implementation of coaching practices in tutoring and advising.

3. Engage with professional associations/bodies such as UKAT and Advance HE through conferences and networking opportunities. 

4. Share practice and knowledge exchange, and identify opportunities for more formalised CPD qualifications for future development.

5. Explore strategies to capture the impact that coaching in tutoring and advising has on student outcomes/student experience (in order to be able to advocate for these approaches).
